Description

  • Robert Mapplethorpe
  • 'Joe, New York City (Rubber)'
  • Gelatin silver print
signed, dated, editioned '2/5,' and with '[MAP] 171' in pencil, and the photographer's stamp on the reverse, framed, 1978 (Robert Mapplethorpe: The Photographs, pl. 39)

Condition

This print, on double-weight Agfa paper, is in generally excellent condition. Upon close inspection in raking light, the following are visible in the image and margins: scattered tiny impressions, and soft and sharp handling creases, some of which appear to break the emulsion. The margin edges and corners are subtly worn. There are barely discernible tack-holes at the upper margin corners. There is some minor soiling on the reverse. '023' is written in an unidentified hand in pencil.
