Condition

The canvas is wax lined and tightly pressed. An elegant image reads well with some slight loss of details to the shadows of the composition. There is a line that runs horizontally through the center of the canvas as a result of the stretcher bar, though this is not too distracting. Some retouches are visible to the naked eye like for example on her pink robe, and in between the saints leg where the green robe floats. Inspection under UV shows further retouches to the shadows on the bottom left corner and along the bottom edge, to the books at right of the skull, to the sky at right of the Magdalene's face, and to the curtain that falls right above her head. The painting can hang in its present condition and is offered in an ornately carved gilded frame.
