Condition

The canvas appears to be lined. The figures read well underneath an old, dirty varnish. Although there is minor craquelure throughout the painting, the most prominent areas are in the faces and chest of the figures. Some abrasions and paint losses are along the edges, most likely due to to framing. Possible attending to an old seam appears to be visible on the reverse of the canvas. Inspection under UV shows scattered retouches here and there, though the most noticeable being on the lady's hair. Two other repairs, probably from an old tear, are visible on the top left corner. One is a spot that is approximately 2 by 2 in., meanwhile the other is a thin line about 6 in. long. Each of the aforementioned repairs have an associated patch on the reverse of the canvas. The painting would benefit from a clean. It is offered in a carved, gilded wood frame with scattered losses.
