Catalogue Note

This portrait is very close in pose and composition to another painting by Dahl of Hedvig Leijoncrona, later Rappe (1698–1770),¹ daughter of one of Dahl's closest friends, Swedish poet and diplomat, Christoffer Leijoncrona and his wife Françoise Hwittkell (whose portraits Dahl also painted).² The present work has previously been identified as Eleonora Leijoncrona (1700–77), Hedvig's younger sister.
