Catalogue Note

This portrait is very close in pose and composition to another painting by Dahl of Hedvig Leijoncrona, later Rappe (1698–1770),1 daughter of one of Dahl's closest friends, Swedish poet and diplomat, Christoffer Leijoncrona and his wife Françoise Hwittkell (whose portraits Dahl also painted).2 The present work has previously been identified as Eleonora Leijoncrona (1700–77), Hedvig's younger sister.
