Follower of Rembrandt van Rijn

The panel is cradled and the paint surface is stable with a slightly discoloured and uneven varnish. There is a split with retouchings just to the right of the sitter's nose, running the length of the panel. There are also two small hairline cracks running from the upper margin, left and centre, each measuring approx. 3 cm, and another three running up from the lower margin, centre and right, the longest of which measures approx. 8 cm. The varnish fluoresces milkily under ultraviolet light making it difficult to discern other previous restoration. In overall good condition. Offered in a plain painted wood frame in good condition.
