  • Diptych with the young Saint John the Baptist and the Virgin and Child
  • ivory, in an ebonised wood and gilt metal frame

Condition

Overall the condition of the ivories is good, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is some dust in the crevices. The natural grain of the ivory is slightly visible throughout. There is some very minor stable splitting, consistent with the material. There is minor yellowing in areas, and slight rubbing at the high points. The ivories are slightly loose but stable within the diptych frame. There is minor tarnishing to the metal mounts. The frame is composed of sections, with stable joints slightly visible. There are minor losses to the back wood plates, and there is rubbing to the paintwork of the frame.
