Description

  • Medallion with the Ecce Homo and a relief with the Head of Saint John the Baptist
  • gilt and polychromed terracotta, in a gilt copper medallion
  • Spanish, probably Seville, 17th century

Condition

Overall the condition of the roundel is good with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is probably a restoration to the nose of Saint John. There is general wear to the polychromy on the terracotta including some losses. It’s possible that the gilding may have been refreshed on the terracotta. Some small chips and abrasions to the edges of the terracotta. The frame, while of the period, is probably associated. There is wear to the Ecce Homo, particularly at the arms and wrists. The gilding has rubbed in areas particularly at the high points and edges of the frame. There is greening to the possibly later hook at the top. There are three holes to the frame.
