Description

  • Devotional Jewel of the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception
  • partially enamelled gold, set with seed pearls, now mounted as a brooch
  • Spanish, first half 17th century

Condition

Overall the condition of the jewel is good, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is a loss to one of the rays and pearls on the proper right side at the bottom. There are a few losses to the enamel, including to the crescent moon and some of the rays. There is some pitting to the Virgin's face. There is minor warping in areas, including to the rays, moon and crown. The brooch mount is modern; it is possible that it replaces a previous mount. The pearls have not been tested.
