Condition

Overall, the condition of the wood is good, with dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is stable splitting to the wood, in particular to the neck and the legs of the ass. There is some glue residue visible around these splits at the back, and some restoration to the front. The polychromy may be partially refreshed, particularly around these restorations and to the rest of the ass. There is minor past worming to the wood. There is a small later wood insert to the bottom of the relief. There is rubbing to the polychromy, in particular to the high points, including at the faces. There is a small hole and a metal reinforcement to the back at the centre.
