Description
- Processional cross
- partially gilt and polychromed wood, on an ebonised wood base
- Spanish, Catalonia, early 16th century
Condition
Considering the age and function of the object, the condition is good, with some dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. The wood is largely intact. There are a few open joints, including to the reverse of the cross at the centre. Some of the crockets and decorative elements are lost. There various small chips to the edges. There is a restored fracture at the front below the centre of the cross. There are remnants of original polychromy and gilding; however there are many losses, in particular to the centre of the cross and the terminals at the front and back. A few of the upward terminals around the base are lost. There is some non-active worming to the wood, particularly at the back.
