Condition

Overall the condition of the wood is good, with some wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age. The lance and the shield appear to be later replacements. The fingers of the proper right hand have been reattached with joints visible. A section of the base on the proper right side at the back is carved separately and appears to be later. Further joints are visible at the proper left hand and the proper right forearm. There is very minor stable splitting to the wood consistent with the material, notably to the proper left foot. There is minor evidence of past worming, including to the chest, to the hair, and notably at the back. There is wear to the gilding and polychromy throughout, including minor areas of loss. The polychromy of the shield has chipped in areas, notably at the top left corner. There is red paint, and a modern metal hook, to the back.
