Catalogue Note

Both sophisticated and witty, Chardin portrays the celebrated Italian composer with great energy and verve.  Verdi is depicted with the score of Il Trovatore behind his back, a reference to one of his greatest stage successes. The opera premiered on 19th January 1853 at the Teatro Apollo in Rome.
