Description
- Seated Saint
- gilt and polychromed limewood
- Southern German, probably Swabia, circa 1500
Condition
Overall the condition of the wood is good, with some dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There are some minor losses to the wood including to the attribute in the Saint's proper left hand. The proper left hand is slightly loose but stable. A section on the saint's proper right side appears to have been carved separately and a joint is slightly visible. There is wear to the polychromy in areas, including some flaking and losses in particular to the drapery at the proper left knee and thigh. Some of the gilding and polychromy have probably been refreshed. There is very slight evidence of past worming, notably to the underside and reverse. There is a hole to the throne on each side.
