The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.This small work on oak panel has been restored and is noticeably glossy. No retouches are visible under ultraviolet light or with the naked eye, but weakness does often develop in the finest details of the butterflies in this kind of picture, and there may be some fine retouching in these areas. Despite the very rich varnish, the picture looks well and should be hung as is.
