Catalogue Note
Autograph material by Clara dating from before her marriage is rarely encountered at auction. The Trois romances Op.11 date from between 1838 and 1839, and were published in the following year, when Clara wrote out this album-leaf. These were years of turmoil for Clara and her future husband, as they strove to overcome the obstacles to marriage put in their way by Clara's father, Friedrich Wieck. The couple were finally able to marry a few months after this album-leaf, on 12 September.
