Condition
The sheet is fully laid down on board. The sheet has been unevenly cut along the top edge, in keeping with the artist's technique, and there are three Artist's pinholes to the top of the sheet. There is a small vertical tear to the sheet about two cms. in length to the right of the helmet at the upper edge. There is one faint horizontal crease, which runs through the soldier's collar, two further faint creases in the centre of the left edge and one further towards the upper left corner. There are a small number of very minor associated undulations, visible upon close inspection.
There are light remnants of what appears to be paper, most probably from a previous mount, adhering to the sheet along the upper part of the extreme right edge, not visible in the present mount. There is some probable old frame abrasion along the left and right edge, also not visible in the present mount. There is one very tiny fleck of loss, to the left of the soldier's right eye. There are one or two extremely tiny further specks of loss, only visible upon very close inspection. There is some minor rubbing to the sheet in the upper left edge. Subject to the above the work appears to be in overall very good condition with passages of fresh colour throughout.
The work is held behind glass in a simple wooden frame.
