Condition

Original canvas. The canvas undulates slightly in places, but otherwise appears sound. There are some losses apparent around the extreme outer edges in places, most apparent at the corners of the work, but with one or two small losses around the edges elsewhere. There are some lines of cracquelure apparent to some of the thicker areas of impasto, with some lifting apparent towards the centre of the lower edge, the centre of the upper edge and towards the centre right of the orange pigment. There are some small flecks of resultant loss in places, and there are some areas of flattening and slight loss to some of the tips of impasto, most apparent to some tips of the orange pigment towards the lower edge of the composition. There are some extremely minor, tiny lines of reticulation in one or two places. There is some light surface dirt and studio detritus in places. Subject to the above, the work appears to be in good overall condition. Ultraviolet light reveals no obvious signs of fluorescence or retouching. The work is presented in a simple painted wooden frame. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
