Description

  • Peter Lanyon
  • Brick Walk Around
  • signed, dated 62, and indistinctly inscribed
  • liquitex on paper
  • 25 by 34.5cm.; 9¾ by 13½in.

Provenance

Catherine Viviano Gallery, New York
Basil Jacobs Fine Art Ltd, London, where acquired by the family of the present owner

Condition

Not examined out of the frame. The sheet undulates slightly in places, but otherwise appears sound, and appears to be affixed in several places, at least around the edges, to a backing board. There are Artist's pinholes apparent in both the upper and the lower left corner. There is a very light scuff to the extreme edge of the sheet at the lower left vertical edge. There are some very tiny, minor flecks of possible loss to the liquitex, apparent to the brown pigment in the upper half of the work where it has been applied over the ochre pigment. There are one or two light traces of surface dirt. Subject to the above, the work appears to be in very good overall condition, with strong and bright tones throughout. The work is float mounted onto a fabric-covered backing board and is presented in a simple gilded wooden frame, held under glass.
