Mildred I. Szojak was a retired Foreign Service secretary who served in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps and Army Air Corps during World War II and joined the Department in the early 1950s. She served with the Department and the U.S. Information Agency in Hangzhou, Saigon, Jakarta, Vientiane, Dhaka, Ankara, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Karachi and Beijing.

Condition
There is wrinkling with minor creasing visible in the upper and left edge. Discoloration on the woman's blue saree, particularly along the top, as viewed. Some minor spots of pigment loss- in the forehead of the child, the earrings of the figures and the lower right quadrant. Minor wear with associated loss along the white margins, visible only upon very close inspection. The colors of this work are brighter in reality than reproduced in the catalogue illustration. This work has not been inspected outside its frame.
