The present lot is one of two cast by the London art foundry Fiorini and Carney for the American art collector Eric Estorick, who founded the Grosvenor Gallery in 1960. Two other Xhosa Girls were cast by the Vignali foundry in Pretoria for Egon Guenther. Egon's two editions were numbered while the Grosvenor Gallery's editions, including the present lot, were not.
