Condition
Illustration is accurate. Good overall condition. The inner cup is slightly oxidized and rusty due to water. Both lion heads were originally fitted with rings which can be easily replaced.

La Société des marbres et bronzes artistiques fut fondée par Charles de Marnyhac à Paris : d’abord située avenue de l'Opéra, puis rue de la Paix, elle était spécialisée dans la production d'objets d’art. La Maison Marnyhac remporta une médaille à l'Exposition Universelle de 1878 et ses créations rivalisaient avec celles des autres grands marchands de nouveautés, tels que Christofle, Barbedienne ou l'Escalier de Cristal. Afin de répondre au goût japonisant en vogue, Marnyhac employa à de nombreuses reprises le talent d’Edouard Lièvre (1828-1886), l’un des ornemanistes les plus inventifs de la seconde moitié du XIXe siècle.
