Condition

Good condition overall with some wear to the patina at several places consistent with age and handling. Some verdigris stains to the surface. The torch of the male figure cast separately with a joint visible. Joints also visible to the shoulders. The figures have been electrified. Very decorative bronze.

Catalogue Note

Les modèles en bronze ont été commandés par le Ministère de l'Intérieur en 1850 pour le palais de l'Elysée. Un contrat de 1869, signé entre Barbedienne et Graux-Marly, précise les droits d'édition de ces deux modèles revenant à chaque maison.
