Catalogue Note

first edition of this work on the author's favorite sport, boxing. Inscribed by London: "Dear Mab — Though vainly I tried to read it to you  in manuscript, vainly have you striven to escape it. Here it is, in cold print, at last. Sincerely yours, Jack London Glen Ellen, July 1905."

The recipient was most likely Mabel Lachmund, a musician who frequented the Carmel literary scene.
