Provenance

Anonymous sale, Milan, Christie's, 22 May 2007, lot 69;
There acquired by the present collector.

Condition

The canvas has been relined. The surface is clean and the painting can be hung in its present state. The paint surface has been very well retained and there is lovely detail throughout. Examination under UV light reveals some retouching in the sky, mostly in the clouds at the center portion of the composition. There is some retouching to the upper right section of the façade of the Doge's Palace. The rest of the architecture, foreground, figures and water do not appear to have any significant retouching. The restorations mentioned have been well applied and there is no need for any further work. Offered in a carved and gilt wood frame.
