Condition
The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
This work on canvas is well lined and nicely varnished. Almost all of the restoration is on the side of the marble tabletop and in the shadowed strip on the bottom edge. There is some slight thinness that has been retouched on the left side. There is one area on the right where a non-original signature was removed, and the retouches are well handled here. There is some diagonal cracking that can be seen running through the flowers into the upper left corner, but this is minor and does not have a negative impact on the image. The work should be hung as is.
