Painted on paper laid down on artist's board. The surface is clean. There are minor scuffs at the extreme edges. Some creasing of the paper can be seen at the upper and lower left corners and the lower right corner (none of this is visible when the painting is framed). Overall the condition of the paint surface is very good with nice, thick impasto and lovely detail throughout. Examination under UV light reveals some retouching at extreme edges. There is a horizontal line of retouching (about 5 in. long) in the upper left quadrant of the picture, in the landscape just above the rocks. Other scattered small retouches can be seen in the rocks lower right and on the figures at center. All of these have been well applied and there is no need for further work. Offered in a carved and gilt wood frame with stylized leaf pattern.
