Catalogue Note

During the 15th and 16th centuries, it was fashionable to cast the shafts of candlesticks with statuettes of male figures with outstretched arms supporting either a pricket or socket. The pourpoint or doublet with bag sleeves, pointed beard and bowl haircut came into fashion in the last decade of the 14th century and appear in both miniatures and metalwork of that date.
