Anonymous sale, New York, Sotheby's, 19 May 1994, lot 40;
There acquired and thence by descent.

Condition

The canvas is relined. This is a beautifully preserved painting, with fine detailing and shading, especially in the white snow, still preserved. The craquelure pattern is somewhat pronounced in the middle left passage of the sky, but the paint does appear stable. UV light reveals only a couple small retouches in two isolated areas of the sky, as well as along the top edge. The painting could very easily be hung in its current condition. In a carved gilt wood frame.
