The graduated necklace-bracelet combination of cluster design, set with round, pear and marquise-shaped diamonds weighing a total of approximately 78.75 carats, length 15 inches, separates into three sections measuring 7, 6¾ and 1¼ inches for variety of wear, signed V.CA. and Van Cleef & Arpels, numbered N.Y. 34512 and N.Y. 35691; circa 1965. With fitted box.
Provenance
Christie's New York, Magnificent Jewels, April 11-12, 1994, lot 499, Property From the Estate of Mrs. Roger S. Firestone. Mrs. Firestone was married to Roger Firestone, son of tire pioneer Harvey S. Firestone. Mr. Firestone was the director of the Firestone Plastics Company in Pottstown, Pennsylvania and a director of the Firestone Tire & Rubber Company in Akron, Ohio.
Condition
In good condition and very nicely articulated. Diamonds range from approximately F-H color, VS-SI clarity, with a marquise-cut diamond neighboring the signature plaque bearing a small chip, visible under 10x magnification. The 7 inch segment numbered N.Y. 34512, the 6¾ inch segment numbered N.Y. 35691 and dated 1965; the 1¼ inch segment is unmarked and one link on the reverse presents separation that could be repaired by a jeweler. Fitted with safety closures.
