Ingenious Geometrics

Designed in the late 1930's, the iconic Ludo collection was named after Luis "Ludo" Arpels and remained in production until around 1950. Composed of a mesh-like flexible band of polished gold in brick or hexagonal patterns, the Ludo is one of the most sought-after collections of Van Cleef & Arpels and is commonly featured in the Maison's commemorative books.

The Ludo design lent itself to various fanciful interpretations and was fashioned into watches, bracelets, earclips and rings. The patterns include diamond, ruby, sapphire or emerald accents, with stylized buckle motifs. Interesting designs such as the sapphire buckle motif shutter watch offered in Lot 1649 also features the famed Mystery setting. Chic and unique, the Ludo is a timeless, wearable classic that would be a welcome addition to any jewellery collection.
