Condition

Original canvas. The canvas appears sound. There are some lines of reticulation and craquelure, most apparent to the areas of the still life objects and the top of the tablecloth, with some further minor instances of craquelure and reticulation elsewhere. There is some possible rubbing to the canvas to the areas of black pigment at the lower edge. There are some light specks of surface dirt in places. Subject to the above, the work appears to be in good overall condition. Ultraviolet light reveals some flecks of retouching to the edges and corners of the work in places, some of which is in line with old frame abrasions. There is also some retouching to the aforementioned craquleure to the tablecloth, with some further minor flecks of retouching elsewhere. These have been sensitively executed. The work is presented in a gilt wooden frame. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
