Condition
The board appears sound. The surface of the board is slightly uneven in places, thought to be in keeping with the Artist's materials. There are some lines of craquelure to the work in places, which has resulted in lifting and some flecks of loss, including but not limited to an area above the figure second from left, the face and hand of the figure at the far right, and to elements of the machinery in the upper and lower right quadrants. There is a fleck of loss apparent to the grey curved metal element to the centre right of the composition. There is a scuff with associated loss to an area of the brown pipe at the upper edge. There are two scratches, with resultant losses, in the upper right quadrant, and there are further scuffs and scratches to the work in places. There are some minor instances of frame abrasion around the edges of the work. There is some surface dirt, studio detritus and matter in places to the work.
Under ultraviolet light, the surface of the work is inherently difficult to interpret. There may be some small spots of old retouching to the work. There are also some areas of fluorescence which are thought to be in keeping with the Artist's materials.
The work is presented in a wooden frame.
