Description
- Alan Davie
- Upsurge No.4
- signed, titled, dated AUG 1952 and inscribed on the reverse
- oil on board
- 120 by 104cm.; 47¼ by 41in.
Provenance
Gimpel Fils, London, where acquired by the present owner, November 2007
Condition
The board appears sound. There are some small flecks of loss to the work, including a couple of very tiny flecks towards the upper side of the right vertical edge, and a couple to the grey pigment in the upper centre of the work. There is some flattening to some of the impasto in places, and some studio detritus. Subject to the above, the work appears to be in very good overall condition.
Ultraviolet light reveals some possible retouching, including a spot in the upper left quadrant, and several in the lower left quadrant and lower centre of the work.
The work is presented in a simple wooden frame.
