Royal folio (412 x 275mm.), 432 leaves (of 433, without blank leaf 403), [a-i10 k12 l-r10 s12 t-z10 A-E10 F8 G10 H11 I-V10], double column, 62 lines, gothic type, a few 3- to 9-line initials in red, headlines in black ink for first half of volume, some early annotations, 2 pinholes, contemporary German blind-stamped calf over wooden boards, two clasps, endleaves with watermark of a crown [Briquet 4772, dated to Augsburg, 1470s], manuscript fragments in binding, alum-tawed index tabs, deckle edges, binding worn, upper cover and flyleaf and first quire detached

The Charterhouse of Buxheim owned another copy of this work, which had been the gift of Hilprand Brandenburg (for whom see lot 22).

Catalogue Note
A TALL CRISP COPY of the second edition to be printed by Mentelin (see lot 19 for Mentelin's editio princeps).
The named binding stamps (Maria, Ihesus and Johannes) are recorded by Einbanddatenbank as being used by Franz Virtle (EDBD w002439) in the 1460s, including on another Mentelin imprint now in Bamberg. The other stamps include acorns, an eagle and a lion, small shields, rosettes, and leaves.
