Condition

The work displays significant restoration. The canvas appears stable, but the paint does not appear entirely secure. The canvas has been reinforced along its edges and patched on the reverse; the canvas also has been infused with wax, probably to stabilize insecure paint, some of which is now cupped and probably lifting. Visual inspection and infrared examination reveals significant broad retouching and some overpaint, which points to corresponding paint loss along edges and within the image, some significant.
