Condition
The medium is oil on canvas, the canvas has an old, light, wax liner. There is dimension retained in the more thickly painted areas, there are also some areas that have been left to show the canvas, notably in the sky. There is a small (1 1/2 inch diameter) circular area of retouching in the center of the work, two inches to the left of the back of the standing male figure, this retouching is also visible under UV. Overall the work presents very well.

The present work can be related to a project for an interior wall décor of the same subject, dated circa 1890. Several panels from this décor are in the collection of the Musée de Brest, each one with cut-out sections to leave space for doors.
