The canvas is not lined and there is a milky varnish preventing the UV light from fully penetrating. However, UV examination reveals some spots of fluorescence to the sitter's hair and a line to the left of the figure's proper left arm which pertain to an uneven layer of varnish. There are several artist's pin holes to all four corners, some of which with associated paint losses. There is a spot of paint loss to the centre of the lower edge where the canvas is slightly fraying. There are a few further paint losses visible along the extreme left edge. There are fine lines of paint shrinkage to the sitter's ring and fine lines of craquelure throughout and entirely stable. This work is in overall good condition and might benefit from a light clean.
