• cal. 16.5'" gilt metal finely engraved verge movement, pierced and engraved balance cock • gilt dial, applied Turkish numerals on an engine turned ground, beaded minute divisions, subsidiary seconds, Louis XVI hands, dial centered by a floral engraving with paste accents • 18k pink gold case, finely engraved floral motif at bezel, case band and case back, case back with polychrome enamel crest • cuvette signed
Condition
The movement is running at time of cataloguing, however it was not tested for the accuracy of time or duration of the power reserve and may need service at the buyer's discretion. Please note that Sotheby's does not guarantee the future working of the movement.
Case in overall good condition with wear, light scuffing and scratches consistent with age and use. Wear to the engraved case visible most along case band where engravings are very smooth and flat. Floral and decorative depictions still clear and visible. Some surface markings at the case band lip. Case back with polychrome enamel Coat of Arms of the Ottoman Empire over stippling pattern. Case inscribed "N 841, 213020." Cuvette inscribed " Montre Hamidie, Invention Brevetee, Seul Proprietaire, J. Tolayan, Constantinople." Dial in overall poor condition with uneven areas of oxidation and patina. Pitting at the center-right side of the dial. Subsidiary seconds dial appears scratched and divisions have faded significantly. Movement in good condition.
