Catalogue Note

Accompanied by a Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin, an instruction manual and a cork presentation box.

To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Patek Philippe Nautilus series, the brand released a pair of upsized limited editions, 5711/1P and 5976/1G in precious metals to mark the occasion.

Designed by legendary watchmaker Gérald Genta, the Nautilus took design inspiration from nautical portholes and thus named after the Submarine in Jules Verne’s novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. This reference was described in the product literature as "the rugged watch that feels right on every occasion" and lived up to this slogan as for much of its production life.

Measuring 49.25mm in diameter including the crown, the ref. 5976/1G is essentially the largest wristwatch that Patek Philippe has ever produced. It is an enlarged version of ref. 5980 with several modifications on the dial – baguette-cut diamonds weighting up to 0.29 carats are served as hour markers and the center of the blue dial is stamped with the anniversary emblem. (reading "1976-40-2016") Paying tribute to its root, The 5976/1G comes packaged in a special anniversary vintage-style cork box just like the original 1976 Nautilus.

Limited to only 1,300 pieces, this is the imminent debut of the Ref. 5976/1G 40th Anniversary Limited Edition on the auction floor in completely mint condition.
