Condition
Overall in very good condition. The metal surfaces with minor surface scratches, scuffs, oxidation and surface soiling concentrated to the recessed areas, with isolated areas of rubbing throughout consistent with age and gentle use. The top right proper corner edge of the backrest to one chair with a small hairline radiating from front to back, is stable and measures approximately 1 ¾ in. The polychrome and gilt decoration have been sensitively enhanced at some point in the history of the pieces. Minor wear and rubbing to the gilded and painted details on both backrests. The metal surfaces have possibly been resealed with scattered reddish drip marks on the rear of the backrests which are not visually distracting. The top rear left corner of one backrest with a possible area of sensitive and professional repair, measuring approximately 4 by 1 ¾ in. and is not visually distracting. The wooden surfaces have been sensitively revarnished and present with minor surface scratches, scuffs and losses concentrated to the edges. One of the seats with a minor area of old wormholes which are no longer active. Both seat surfaces with minor seam separations between the two panels that comprise the seat, are stable and not visually distracting. The rear edge of one seat with a chip that has been partially filled at some point, measuring approximately 3/8 by ¾ in. A rare and important design that is extremely representative of Dresser's Aesthetic designs.
