Description
- Archibald Knox
- Wall Sconce, Model no. 0215
- pewter with mother-of-pearl and abalone
Literature
Stephen A. Martin, Archibald Knox, London, 2001, p. 273 (for the present lot illustrated)
Condition
Overall in very good condition. When viewed in person, the pewter surfaces present with an elegant modeling enhanced by the hammered surface of the border and the mother-of-pearl and abalone inlays. The surfaces with light surface dirt and possible polish residue to the recessed areas consistent with age and gentle use. The pewter surfaces with minor rubbing and light surface scratches consistent with age and gentle use. The abalone displays a diverse palette of slightly muted jeweled tones and is in good condition with minor irregularities inherent in the material. The lower shelf was likely designed to accommodate a oil-burning apparatus for a candle sconce. A rare example by Knox with great scale and presence.
