Description
- Wood and enamel
of rectangular form with gently rounded upright sides and a low foot, a branch of blossoming prunus inlaid in mother-of-pearl across the center, the leaves, petals, and branches finely incised for naturalistic effect, the base painted evenly with brick-red lacquer
Condition
Cracks and lifting to the lacquer throughout consistent with age. A consolidant has been applied to stabilize select areas of lost or lifted lacquer, and to secure much of the mother-of-pearl inlay. Some losses to the mother-of-pearl, the largest section being to the outermost tip of the branch which has been in-filled with paint (approx. 2 cm in length). Scattered flakes to the red lacquer base, and two chips to the foot (largest 5 x 4 mm). The base painted with "03117" in blue and "6-2" in white, and also bearing an old label ("37").
