the rectangular panel centered by a woven scene of a phoenix perched on a rock, the bird's plumage picked out in rust-red and shades of blue and green, and couched thread accents, with peonies, bamboo, lingzhi and wutong tees, all against a sky of gold-wrapped threads, the rectangular valance with a celestial landscape flanked by ruyi clouds and a pair of cranes, all against a coral ground, each panel with borders of gilt and blue kuilong on black ground, framed 

Condition

The principal panel with the phoenix in overall good condition, with very few creases, snags, or discoloration. The coral-ground panel in mostly good condition but with minor discoloration and weave imperfections toward the edges. The embroidery of the black-ground borders in good condition, but the black fabric itself with occasional tears, snags, and frays (stabilized by mounting to a black fabric backing). Above the coral-ground panel is a brown tabby band with dark brown staining (photographs available upon request). Please note that the kesi was not removed from the frame for inspection.
