Description

the deity cast seated on a throne in a reverential pose with joined hands, wearing elaborate long robes adorned with various attributes, the ridged headress fronted with three peaks flanked by two disks, the face  in a meditative expression, with slender downcast eyes below deeply furrowed brows, a straight nose and crisply defined lips above a wispy beard, the base illegibly inscribed, the patina a dark brown with traces of polychrome and gilt lacquer

Provenance

Acquired in Boston circa 1940-60s, and thence by descent.

Condition

The sculpture is in overall good condition. There are two circular eroded areas of pitting to the back of the base. The surface is quite worn - the inscription is largely illegible, pitting, minor nicks and dents to edges and extremities consistent with age. There are traces of lacquer and gilt.
