each painted to the interior with a central medallion enclosing a confronted dragon and phoenix amid peony blooms within a double line border, with a band of leafing peony scrolls encircling the cavetto, the exterior with four blooms, peony, chrysanthemum, prunus and hibiscus, the base with an apocryphal Chenghua mark, wood stands (4)
Provenance
Acquired between 1930-36, and thence by descent.
Condition
One with an approx. 0.6 cm flake chip to the rim. The other with a small iron spot to the interior rim and a tiny glaze adhesion to rim. Both dishes with some light surface wear and minor firing imperfections and are very slightly warped.
