- bronze and box
the deep U-shaped body rising from three blade legs to a pointed rim opposite a long spout flanked by a pair of posts, cast around the body with two raised fillets and set to one side with a loop handle issuing from an animal mask, the body decorated with archaic motifs forming two taotie masks, with a pictogram beneath the handle, the bronze with variegated malachite encrustations, Japanese wood box
Condition
The jue has heavy malachite encrustation to the majority of the surface, corrosion to the vertical flange opposite the handle, a repaired break to the triangular rim, a circa 4x2cm., oval patch to the interior base with associated cracks on the exterior and a smaller circular 2x2cm., patch, both possibly contemporary to manufacture, otherwise in good condition.
