Catalogue Note

Azor Forsythe was born in 1803 in Owego and there married Deborah Nilson (b. 1815) in 1833. In 1850, the couple was living in Elmira with their three children and two servants. In that census, Azor is listed as a “painter” and living in a neighborhood populated by tailors, jewelers, numerous laborers and other painters.
