Condition

The canvas is lined, the paint surface is stable if very slightly dirty, and the varnish is clear and even. A faint vertical stretcher mark is visible down the right margin. Some slightly discoloured retouchings are visible along small lines of previous losses, probably caused by flaking, one going down the binding of the 'Bellini Opera' book and onto the sitter's hand, and the other in the paper to the left of the same hand. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals some small areas of retouching scattered throughout the composition, most notably to the aforementioned damages. In overall good condition.
