Description

  • Two Damascus Pottery Border Tiles

  • each: 11.7 by 23.6cm.; 11.8 by 23.5cm.; 4 5/8 by 9 1/4 in., 4 5/8 by 9 1/4 in.
decorated in underglaze apple green, cobalt blue, turquoise and mauve with black outlines, mounted together

Condition

The tiles with abrasions to edges and each with breaks to angles, some chips in glaze and pitting to surface, both set together onto wooden mount with hook for hanging, with two old collector labels: "Damascus, 17th (poss. 16th c.) and Bought as (?) in Alex-Anoma (1870s)", as viewed.
