Of openwork garter design, set with oval and cushion-shaped sapphires, with cushion and circular-cut diamond borders, Russian assay and maker's mark, later brooch fitting to the reverse.
Condition
Accompanied by GCS, report no. 5777-9722, stating that sapphires are natural, with no indications of heating, origin opinion Sri Lanka (Ceylon).
Stamped with Russian assay marks for 14 carat gold, St Petersburg, and maker's mark SS on frame to reverse and on brooch pin. Indistinct mark on side of brooch. Later brooch fitting to reverse. Sapphires are light-mid purplish blue, some variation in colour, typical inclusions visible under magnification, some inclusions are surface reaching and casing some cavities and chips, some surface scratches, rubbed facets and small chips. Diamonds are bright and lively, estimated total diamond weight approximately 2.15 carats. There are light scratches to metal consistent with age and wear, small dents and pits. Some areas with light discolouration and some yellow patches. Brooch has possibly been plated Pin is slightly bent, in good working order. Length approximately 45 x 39mm. Overall condition good.
